The main goal of Citizens Coalition for Independent Media to have a Democratic Society, where citizens freely and willingly advocate for independent media, Freedom of Expression and Association as well as agitate for increased citizen participation.
The following Values are guiding principles to what we do in order to achieve our Mission
Recognizing how media, especially social media, could be a pervasive and profoundly influential socializing force, CCIME is highly committed in using its power as a media organization to advocate for gender equality at all levels of society and institutions.
Because holding Ugandan decision makers accountable is one of CCIME’s main missions, CCIME pays particular attention to its own accountability in all its activities, including financial management, and accepts responsibility for them in front of all its stakeholders. CCIME’s accountability is achieved through the disclosure of results in a transparent manner to both its supporters and beneficiaries.
CCIME not only wants to provide Uganda citizens with neutral and unbiased information but also acts as an independent organization itself, free from any form and origin of influence. CCIME’s independence gives us the authority we need to effectively make real change happen.
CCIME believes that strengthening professionalism in journalistic practices in Uganda requires paying particular attention to ethical principles. For CCIME, building the capacities of journalists, starting with its own, is also a way to provide Ugandan citizens with information of true quality.
CCIME promotes freedom of expression and freedom of the press and fosters media independence and pluralism through advocacy on media legislation and by making governments, parliamentarians and other decision-makers aware of the need to guarantee free expression.
Citizen journalism is based upon public citizens "playing an active role in the process of collecting, reporting, analyzing, and disseminating news and information." For democracy in a complex society to work well, journalism is necessary.
Advocating for free expression and other basic human rights will remain a cornerstone of CCIME’s mission. The Ugandan government continue take drastic steps to crack down on the rights of free expression in the lead up to and fall-out from the National Elections.
The Independent News Network is a news program of CCIME that produces customized, quality driven newscasts in English in a variety of settings.
Promoting the safety of journalists and combating impunity for those who attack them are central elements within CCIME’s support for press freedom on all media platforms.
The program strategy is to build and strengthen CCIME’s capacity to progressively adapt to changing environments so as to continue to effectively and efficiently implement its mandate.
CCIME intends to enhance its institutional Capacity through a variety of mechanisms that include, among others; resource mobilization, training of both voluntary and full-time personnel as well as holding of staff, board and organize meetings to regularly review progress
